I must freely admit that I have blatantly taken the italicized text from another blog - my brother's. I left him a note telling him I was doing it because it was better than linking to his blog. With some of the comments of late I didn't feel it necessary to publicize his more personal blog site.
So, for those of you who don't recognize this as the penultimate definition of political correctness, I'd love to here your definitions - feel free to leave your comments.
"The following is the 2007 winning entry from an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term. This year's term: Political Correctness."
'"Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."'
The creator of that definition could have any job in marketing he wanted.

You and your brother appear to be Christian hypocrits. Just an observation.
Just what on earth does political correctness have to do with Christianity?
What's hypocritical about the definition?
It's hypocrite by the way.
If you feel so strongly that political correctness has made this a better society, explain the how and why.
You might also want to lighten up a tad - it was humorous, but I guess when you decide to hate you put your whole heart into it.
Bless you and may you find a smile to lighten your load.
Which end is the clean one?
Just asking. I think what the cerebrally challenged (hows that for pc) anonym-ass was trying to say was - Didn't you know the 11th commandment "thou shalt not say poop, doo-doo or turd."
here's my favorite, well not really my favorite, but it makes it sound oh so nice (sort of):
Abortion - Near-Life Experience
Or this for the greenies:
Dead - environmentally correct human
I love it when people are so quick to judge other people based on the shallowest of observations, but don't even have the courage of their convictions enough to sign their name but have to hide behind their anonymity. Talk about hypocritical.
"penultimate" adjective
1. next to the last; "the author inadvertently reveals the murderer in the penultimate chapter"; "the figures in the next-to-last column
So if the is the next to the last definition of PC, pray tell what is the final definition?
Oh, and speaking of "a delusional, illogical, liberal minority" here's an update on Watson's earlier post concerning that bastion of liberalism by the sea, AKA Berkeley. This comes from Snopes.com.
"On 6 February 2008, six Republican senators introduced companion bills called the Semper Fi Act of 2008. Said act seeks to strip Berkeley of $2.3 million earmaked of it in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill...and give it to the Marine Corps. Similarly, California Assemblyman Guy Houston has announced he will introduce legislation that will strip Berkeley of its transportation funding until itrescinds its anti-military resolution, a move that could cost Berkeley $2.3 million in state funding over the next two years."
"On 13 February 2008, the Berkeley city council said they recognize the recruiters' right to be in the city and reversed their previous decision to send a letter to the downtown recruitment station advising the Marines they are not welcome in Berkeley. The council members said they still strongly opposed the war and the recruitment of young people, but "deeply respect and support" the men and women of the armed forces."
How descent of them to "recognize" the Marine Corps' right to be in their fair city. It would appear the moral convictions of the members of the city council do have a price tag. I couldn't be more opposed to the actions of the city council of Berkeley, but I would at least have had some respect for their beliefs if they had put their money where their mouth was.
There is a definition of hypocracy for you anonymous.
Well, Berkeley has a long history of discovering that reality sucks.
Keep on preaching Brothers Blair. I'm sure God is on your side. At least your holier than thou attitude is amusing to some.
I'm sorry you feel that way. No one is any holier than anyone else. We have different opinions, that's all - we're still all Americans. If you feel you're being preached to and you don't like it, you of course have the option to not return. Either way is okay with me, don't come back, or come back and be "amused" - it's your call.
Ah, Sir Charles, ever observant. The ultimate definition of "political correctness" is yet to be written. It will either become an arcane phrase, or it will become the way of life in the United Socialist States of America.
socialist - you mean like social security? highway departments? eductaion to the 12th grade? local fire, police, and ambulance services? mutal defense through a standing army?
are those the kind of socialist institutions that you're talking about?
or maybe you mean food, shelter, and health for everyone?
please tell us which socialist institutions you are afraid of - try and keep it to ones you and your family haven't benefited from.
Instead of offering a snide reply to your snide questions, let me try and answer you as honestly as I can.
Of course "socialist" doesn't mean all the items listed in paragraph, just some of them.
Social Security: Courtesy of the Depression and FDR, it was an idea that seems great on the face of it, but the government has abused the funds to the point where it will be untenable in the near future. Even when the President suggests that a small portion be given back to the individuals to invest it as they see fit, howls arise - there'll be that much less for the politicians to spend. It is a good idea, but not as it is currently structured. It's just to darn easy for politicians and citizens alike to abuse the system.
As far as education is concerned, I'll just refer you to my piece "Senator Obama's Good Idea".
Local police, firemen, ambulance, standing army - if you want to categorize them as "socialist" feel free, but the army is authorized by the Constitution, and having police, firemen and EMT's is just plain common sense. It's like buying insurance - you don't know when, or even if, you'll ever need their services, but you share in the cost of maintaining these services with your neighbors because of the uncertainty.
"Food, shelter, health" - the basic essentials of life. One of the unintended side effects of "socialism" is that we become less "social". In past times, church groups and other civic organizations, as well as charitable donors, helped those in the community who needed a hand. That sense of community has diminished greatly over the past seventy years. Now we wait with our hands out to see how much the government is going to give us today, whether we EARNED it or not.
Your last paragraph is quite snide, but that's as you intended it to be. Let me be as specific as I can, but I'll cover each of your selected topics, not just the ones I and my family have used as you so kindly suggested:
Social Security: I'm not afraid of it, I'll never get out what I put into it, but I'd be a damn fool not to get as much of my own money back as I possible can.
Police: I'm not always afraid of them, only when I'm speeding.
EMT: Special people. They did there best to try and save my daughters life, but they couldn't. Anyone who does this kind of work, especially the volunteers, will always have my respect and admiration. The men and women who make our our standing army are also pretty special as well. If you want more of my dollars to pay them better and provide them with the best, that's not a problem.
Education: I'm a college graduate who took advantage of government loans, never missed a payment, and had the loan paid off within 10 years after graduating. Using my dollars for education is money well spent, as long as the students are getting a real education, and we're not graduatong functional illiterates like we have been for the past 30 years.
Highway Department: I worked for local department during summer break, although there are those who would not classify some of what I did as "work". I'd say that's money well spent too, in most cases, and has absolutely nothing to do with socialism.
Other than being on unemployment for two months back in 1976, I have been blessed with the health to pursue an occupation of my choice without the assistance of the government.
I do not want national health care; not because I don't care about the welfare of others, but because I don't trust the government to implement any such program without massive waste, fraud, and malfeasance. This is an issue that has to be addressed not by just the government, but by bringing in experts from hundreds of associated fields and designing a plan that works in conjunction with existing private insurance.
There are answers to most questions, but not all the answers are equally palatable to everyone.
Progress is impossible if everyone is screaming at once instead of doing a little listening.
I think you were screaming.
