Michael Yon In The Wall Street Journal

I was ready to post today when I learned that Jimeh Cahtah was going to meet with Hamas. Abandoned on the visit by the Secretary General of the United Nations and other officials because he unilaterally decided to meet with a terrorist organization, our well-intentioned buffoon will achieve just as much as he did as president - diddly.

I was also concerned about the announcement from Iran that they are building 6,000 more centrifuges in addition to the 3,000 that are already in operation. The concern deepens when you consider the prospect of a president that's ready to follow in Jimeh's footsteps. If you don't know who that is, you are among the millions of Americans who either don't bother to vote, or vote with a minimum of information. Regardless of what side of the aisle you find yourself on, the astounding numbers of people that don't vote is puzzling.

What I found the most enlightening was Michael Yon's editorial in the Wall Street Journal - the link is in the title of this piece. I can't say it any better than he did, so I'm not even going to try. If you're interested in the opinion of an independent journalist who's spent more time in Iraq than any other correspondent, read his article.

For my friends who will find fault with Mr. Yon, please feel free to explain where he's wrong. Since most of us have never been to Iraq to see precisely what's going on, it should be interesting to see what our liberal arm-chair quarterbacks have to say. I'm an arm-chair quarterback as well, I just play on a different team.

When It Comes To Al Qaeda - The Unbelievable May Be Believed

As I have mentioned in past posts, Michael Yon is an ex-serviceman who spends most of his time with the troops in the field in Iraq, posting reports that you won't find in the mainstream media. There is an incident that was recounted by an Iraqi official who did not want his name used. I will not say that the incident actually took place, simply because I find it hard to believe, but also because there is no additional verification - yet.

It was the opinion of this Iraqi that Al Qaeda came into Baqubah, united the criminal gangs, and also employed young teenage boys in their efforts. They initially attacked only Shia, but then started targeting Sunni who did not agree with their approach. The story goes that one family was invited to lunch by the local Al Qaeda thugs, only to have their son served to them after Al Qaeda had baked him. If you go back and take a look at Michael's earlier posts from Baqubah, you'll find pictures of a massacre that took place, including women and children. Didn't see it on the main stream media news? Gee - what a surprise. It did make a brief appearance on Fox and The Drudge Report, but no where else I could find.

Whether or not the story is urban myth or factual, is there any doubt that Al Qaeda is capable of such atrocities?

Until the day I die, the position of the Democrat Party will remain incomprehensible to me. I say that because I firmly believe that if it were Billary who decided to enter Iraq, they would be firmly behind our efforts. To be sure, there are a small majority who just wouldn't support any war for any reason, but for most of these politicians, their position is politically motivated. That goes for the weak-kneed Republicans as well.

If you can keep a straight face and say that we're not fighting Al Qaeda in Iraq, then you are either a psychophant, a fool, or like Jimmy Carter, a repulsive combination of both.

Although I become less and less enchanted with President Bush's handling of the war from day one, I will never waver in my support for the troops or for the mission. The War on Terrorism cannot be ignored, nor can it be denied, as the Breck Boy would have us do. I will not submit to the sense of pessimism that the main stream media assaults us with every day; I will not let the terrorists change the way I live my life, and I will not support any candidate from any party who wishes to cut and run from Iraq.

If that makes me part of the minority in this country, then I'm damn proud to be a member of that minority.

On the other end of the spectrum are millions of Americans. Those of us who really pay attention to what's going on in the world sometimes make the fallacious assumption that just about everyone else is like us - and we couldn't be more wrong.

I was having breakfast with my Dad at Lloyd's of Lowville yesterday. For those of you not familiar with Lowville, New York, Lloyd's has been a Lowville landmark for over 70 years, and they've been feeding folks and keeping them regular all that time. The quintessential "greasy spoon", breakfast at Lloyd's is an experience that should not be missed.

As we sipped our coffee, my father mentioned that he had seen my letter to the editor that was posted in last weeks' Journal & Republican, which you can read by going to "Harry Reid - A Man for All Treasons" - my first posting on this blog. Although the Journal did not keep my title, they did publish the letter as written. My father happened to mention the letter to a fellow county employee, who's reply was: "Who's Harry Reid?".

At that point, incredulity under control, my father explained that Mr. Reid was the Senate Majority Leader, and then the conversation continued. As a member of the US Marine contingent aboard the U.S.S. Iowa during WWII, Dad apparently did not believe in ear plugs, and apparently had his right ear towards those 16" guns when they fired. This is quite evident, because he can hear next to nothing out of his right ear. After years of encouraging him to contact the Veteran's Administration, he finally did so and will be going to Syracuse in the next few weeks to see what benefits are available to him.

This was the topic to which the conversation had turned, and my Dad made the point that since all of the uproar concerning "Walter Reed", he'd probably get speedy action on his claim. At this point, his co-worker replied, "Walter Reed - is he Harry Reid's brother?"

You can't make this stuff up.

When a society no longer cares about it's offspring (800,000+ abortions every year), when it ignores time-tested traditions that provide the foundation for the civilization (Gov. Spitzer & his gay-marriage bill), when elements in that society fail to remember the basis upon which they were founded (Judeo-Christian principles), when it's citizenry pays no attention to the issues facing them, that civilization will soon begin, or has already begun, its decline.

I truly believe that if we abandon the people of Iraq, the decline of America will be a fait accompli, and the leadership of the free world, if it still exists, will fall on the shoulders of another people. We will no longer deserve that mantel, as we will have proven to the world that America can not be trusted to stay the course and defend freedom. We will pass from pariah of radical Islam to a nation of little consequence, subject to the unending assault against our society, until we crumble and pass into history as a great concept that could not, or would not, sustain itself.

If I've accomplished nothing else in this life, I have raised children who are politically aware. They have been taught that reading is not only essential - it's fun! They know that voting is not only a right, it's a duty that must be performed with the power of knowledge. They have been taught to question and not take as gospel everything I tell them (not that they needed that instruction), and they know that goes double for politicians and triple for the media. They have a healthy disregard for authority; a disregard not for the law, but for those who would corrupt the essence of law for their own agendas(Specifically, the ACLU, perhaps a greater threat to America than radical Islam - more on that on a later date).

If you're reading this, chances are you are not one of the great, unwashed blivets that make up the ignorant portion of our society - Congratulations! (Blivet - as I'm sure most of you know, is defined as something annoying, ridiculous or useless - I define it as 5 pounds of bulls*** in a 3 pound bag).

Keep up the good work, stay informed and make sure you pass it on to your children, unless you relish the idea of becoming a third-rate-has-been nation.
